Houston Fuel Cleaning

Water Removal |Tank Filtering | Fuel Polishing

We are mobilizing our Fast Response Team out of Dallas/Fort Worth to quickly serve those affected by this historic flood in south Texas.

After & Before of Clear Diesel

Flooding has caused widespread water contamination for almost all fuel tanks (underground tanks and those submerged by flooding). Water mixed with diesel fuel or gasoline leads to:

  • Extensive and costly engine damage.
  • Growth of microbes that causes clogged filters and injectors.
  • Unreliable engine start-up and complete engine failure.

The process of cleaning diesel fuel and gasoline is known at "fuel polishing" because it is much more intense than standard filtering. Fuel polishing actually removes the water from the fuel and restores the fuel back to the same pristine condition as when it left the refinery.

We have been polishing fuel for years. Ever since regulatory changes with ultra low sulfur diesel and biodiesel caused diesel fuel to retain water at unprecedented levels, we have been serving clients across Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma.

How Does Fuel Polishing Work?

Fuel polishing is a new technology that restores your diesel to pristine condition, just like it was when it left the refinery.

The process involves circulating the diesel through a series of high-pressure, industrial-grade filters at a rate of 75 gallons per minute, one of which is designed to even remove the water.

This series of filters removes the rust, algae, hydrocarbon microbes, water, and "tank sludge" that has built up as a result of water settling to the bottom of your fuel tank over the years, or that has been introduced to the flood.

Lastly, we treat the fuel with additives to fend against future microbial growth. When your tank is topped off fresh fuel, trace amounts of water will undoubtedly be re-introduced into your fuel supply through naturally occuring moisture in the air. These trace amounts are not problematic as long as the fuel is circulated and the water does not have time to support microbial growth.

How Much Does It Cost To Clean Your Fuel?

Pricing for fuel polishing services is typically based on the size of the tank and the amount of polishing filters that are required (depends on the severity of the contamination). After a flood of this magnitude, there is an added cost due to the disposal of the contaminated water.

Typically, water may only be 3-5% of the tank volume and so we can easily fill an empty drum with the wastewater. However, we anticipate most fuel tanks will comprise hundreds, if not thousands, of gallons of water. In which case, we will need a separate wastewater disposal unit on site as well.

We are very busy so please call our office and ask to speak with George, so he can get you on our schedule. For a faster quote, complete the short form below with information about your situation. Under normal circumstances, we offer to send your fuel sample to an independent lab for testing.  However, given the magnitude of this flood, you will see water and debris in your fuel sample with the naked eye (as seen in the 'Before and After' photos below).

If you have a diesel tank, our technicians will visit your job site the day before the fuel polishing is scheduled to pre-treat the tank with a biocide. The amount of time it takes to polish the fuel depends on the severity of the tank's contamination. As shown in the video above, we start with a higher-gauge filter and methodically work our way down to a 1 micron filter. If we tried to filter using the smallest gauge from the beginning, the pressure would burn out our pump.

The video below tells you more about the reason why fuel polishing has been such a hot topic in the industry ever since EPA regulations changed the ultra low sulfur limit.

What Is Clean Fuel?

Clean fuel is free of the microbial growth, rust, algae, and tank sludge caused by moisture being absorbed into Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel.

Why Do I Need Clean Fuel?

Contaminated diesel fuel allows particulate matter and water to be drawn into fuel lines causing clogged injectors and expensive engine repairs.

How Do I Clean My Fuel?

Diesel fuel is cleaned (rust, algae, and particulates and water removed) by circulating the fuel through a series of high-pressure, industrial filters.
